U.S. Embassy Seeks Vietnamese Nominations for Fulbright Program

The U.S. Mission in Vietnam is looking for qualified candidates to nominate for the 2014 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, which will place two Vietnamese teaching assistants in Vietnamese language courses at U.S. colleges and universities. The Fulbright FLTA Program is a nine-month, non-degree program that provides young teachers of English with an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency, and expand their knowledge of American society and culture. Four candidates will be shortlisted by the U.S Embassy in Hanoi and the Fulbright Program in Vietnam. Two of them will be selected for the Fulbright FLTA Program. Successful candidates will act as teaching assistants for Vietnamese language courses attended by U.S students at U.S. colleges and universities. Fulbright FLTA participants will assist in up to twenty hours of Vietnamese classes per week, and are required to enroll in at least two courses per semester, one of which must be in U.S. Studies. The remaining coursework, offered on either an audit or credit basis, should relate to their career in English language teaching, and they will also be expected to facilitate extra curriculum activities, cultural events, language clubs, conversation groups, and community projects. Fulbright FLTA Program awards will supply a monthly stipend, accident and sickness coverage, travel support, and tuition fees for the required coursework. Eligible applicants must be teachers of English, hold Vietnamese citizenship, reside in Vietnam, have at least one undergraduate degree, and submit a valid minimum TOEFL – IBT score of 79 or IELTS 6.5. A complete application includes an online application – available at https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/flta – original academic transcripts with certified English translations, an original degree with certified English translations, three letters of recommendation, and a valid TOEFL or IELTS score report. Applications will close on October 31. Further details can be sought from Ms. Vu Quynh Nga at +84 4 3850-5000 or [email protected]. (Vietnam News Oct 16)
