U.S. Helps Vietnam Overcome War Aftermath

Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh on May 8 received U.S. ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius in Hanoi. U.S. doubles funding for post-war landmine removal Vietnam willing to solve post-war issues with U.S. Vinh proposed that the U.S. support Vietnam to overcome the war aftermath and build mutual trust as a premise for further bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Osius said his nation deems it important to develop cooperation with Vietnam including national defense, adding that the U.S. plans to increase budget and apply advanced technologies to help Vietnam clean up dioxin and overcome the effects of unexploded bombs and mines left by the war. Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Vinh received Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Capstone group from the U.S. National Defense University.
