U.S. Supports Vietnam in Semiconductor Workforce Training
The U.S. has pledged to support Vietnam in the training of its semiconductor and STEM workforce after the two countries upgraded their ties to the comprehensive strategic partnership, Deputy Director of Vietnam’s National Innovation Center (NIC) Vo Xuan Hoai told local newswire Tuoi Tre (Youth).
The U.S. side has proposed NIC work with Arizona State University (ASU) to spend an estimated $50 million in funding from the U.S. government on semiconductor workforce training in Vietnam.
Besides, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) pledged $12.5 million in aid of NIC’s innovation and semiconductor workforce training. The center has rolled out part of this aid package and will expand its implementation in 2024.
In addition, NIC is seeking to have the U.S.-based Synopsys supply it with free chip-related training copyright software and then transfer them to local universities.
On the September U.S. trip by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, NIC signed a deal with Cadence Design Systems on improving design capabilities and product development for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and another agreement with ASU on developing manpower for the semiconductor sector.
Recently, the Vietnamese government has entrusted the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant agencies with devising a plan on the training of 50,000 semiconductor engineers and experts by 2030. (Tuoi Tre)
