USAID Funds Herb Development Scheme in Vietnam Quang Tri

On May 21, Vietnam’s central Quang Tri province announced its herb development scheme funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), state media reported.

The scheme, costing VND52 billion ($2.24 million), is part of the Biodiversity Conservation Component within the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) sponsored by the USAID.

The scheme aims to develop herbs fitting biodiversity regions in combination with sustainable natural resources use and “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) development. By 2026, the province is set to have 4,500 hectares of herbs, including 1,000 hectares of newly-planted areas.

On the occasion, VFBC inked cooperation deals with seven firms and cooperatives in fields of herb, vernicia montana, coffee, and river tamarind. (Nong Nghiep, Lao Dong, Bao Tai Nguyen Moi Truong, SGGP, Giao Duc Thoi Dai, Nong Thon Viet)
