USAID Launches $26M Program on Coping with Climate Change in Vietnam

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a program costing $26 million to help Vietnam cope with climate change. The Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program will focus on low carbon emission and green growth in four provinces of Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Long An. Addressing the launching ceremony, Joakim Parker, USAID’s mission director in Vietnam, said that Vietnam is one of the countries prioritized by the U.S. in the climate change program, which will also help promote ties between the two countries. Coping with climate change is part of the bilateral cooperation reached by the two sides during the visit of State Secretary John Kerry to Hanoi in Dec 2013. Vietnam is one of the five countries suffering heavily from climate change impacts.
