USAID Returns Dioxin Remediated Land at Bien Hoa Airbase
A 20,000-cubic-meter area of dioxin-remediated land at the Bien Hoa airbase in Dong Nai Province was handed over by the United States Agency For International Development (USAID) to the Vietnamese Air Force yesterday, March 7.
The event featured the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense Sen. Lieut. Gen Hoang Xuan Chien and US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper.
At the event, USAID announced the completion of Phase 1’s dioxin removal for an area of 20,000 cubic meters which has been cleared for water drainage and planted grass for erosion prevention.
USAID also announced a new contract with a total value of $300 million to remediate dioxin for the Bien Hoa airbase Phase 2.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense Sen. Lieut. Gen Hoang Xuan Chien appreciated the great efforts and cooperation between the U.S. Government, especially the USAID, and Vietnamese authorities, in executing the project.
Work for Dioxin Remediation at the Bien Hoa Airbase Area, with a total cost of over $390 million, has been commenced since April 2019 and executed for over 10 years. (Thesaigontimes)
