USAID Supports Vietnamese Firms Entering U.S. Market

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Agency for Enterprise Development under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment organized a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City last week to help Vietnamese businesses enter the U.S. market.

The workshop, part of the Improving Private Sector Competitiveness project, addressed the challenges Vietnamese businesses face in accessing high-end markets like the U.S. and Europe. Traditional business models demand significant effort to reach these markets, but digital technology and cross-border activities are making access easier.

USAID experts emphasized the importance of meeting U.S. market standards and regulations, including certifications for clean, safe, and environmentally responsible products. This is crucial for sectors like seafood, agriculture, food, pharmaceuticals, and beverages, which face significant trade barriers due to a lack of understanding of safety regulations and import procedures.

The workshop provided insights into expanding the market for Vietnamese agricultural and food products in the U.S., along with the necessary certifications and standards.

Representatives from Amazon, market consultants, and successful exporting businesses shared their experiences at the workshop.

Insights from USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) helped businesses understand practical aspects of exporting to the U.S.
