Vietnam’s COVID-19 Vaccine Nanocovax Has Antibodies against UK Virus Variant

Testing results from the first phase showed that Nanocovax, Vietnam’s first homegrown coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine produced by Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC., produced antibodies against more contagious U.K. virus variant (B117), a representative from Vietnam Military Medical University has said. A health official added that the second phase of the Nanocovax test will be divided into four groups, including three using the vaccine at different doses and the remaining one using placebo, which is different from the first phase. The second phase is to evaluate the antibodies and find out whether the antibodies can neutralize the virus variants found in the U.K. and South Africa, the official added. The second phase will be carried out at two places, namely the capital city of Hanoi and the Mekong Delta province of Long An, which is expected to halve research time to three months.
