Vietnam’s Losses by Natural Disasters Drop 61.5% y/y to $104.2M in Jan-Sep

Vietnam is estimated to have recorded an economic loss of nearly VND2.55 trillion ($104.2 million) due to natural disasters in the first nine months of this year, down 61.5% y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Natural disasters are estimated to have caused 98 deaths/missing and injured 103 people while damaging nearly 110,400 hectares of paddy and veggies; nearly 17,300 poultry and cattle; and more than 17,400 houses, the GSO said.

In January-September, Vietnam is likely to have logged 1,485 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 132 people and injured 115 others, causing an economic loss of nearly VND210.5 billion, down 60.8% y/y.

Besides, relevant agencies have detected 13,214 environmental violations and handled 11,793 of them, with total fines of nearly VND217.5 billion, up 11.3% y/y. (GSO)
