Vietnam’s Losses by Natural Disasters Drop 64.3% y/y to $212.6M in 2023
Vietnam is estimated to have recorded an economic loss of nearly VND5.1 trillion ($212.6 million) due to natural disasters in 2023, down 64.3% y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Natural disasters are estimated to have caused 158 deaths/missing and injured 130 people while damaging 151,500 hectares of paddy and veggies; 98,300 poultry and cattle; and 30,400 houses, the GSO said.
This year, Vietnam is likely to have logged 2,001 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 157 people and injured 137 others, causing an economic loss of VND262.5 billion, down 56.4% y/y.
Besides, relevant agencies have detected 16,641 environmental violations and handled 14,873 of them, with total fines of VND282.1 billion, up 4.9% y/y.
