Vietnam’s Severe Drought Causes Serious Water Shortage to Hydropower: EVN

Severe drought across Vietnam, especially in central region and Central Highlands, has caused serious water shortage to the hydropower sector, state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) reported. The reserved water is about 20%-60% of the designed volumes in many reservoirs. EVN reported that the total accumulated volume of water in hydropower reservoirs last week remained at 6.22 billion cubic meters, or 7.46 billion cubic meters lower than that in the same period last year. This may lead to lower power output of 3.38 billion kWh year on year. EVN vows to ensure electricity supply for manufacturing and living activities per the prime minister’s order. EVN also aims to spend its resources on resisting drought, salt intrusion, among others. (EVN, evn)
