Vietnam’s Southern Province Record Second Case of Zika Virus
Vietnam’s southern province of Dong Nai has recently announced the second case of Zika infection, state media reported. The patient is a 51 year old man in Tan Bien Ward, Bien Hoa Town. Accordingly, health workers from the province’s Preventive Medicine Center on Dec 19 sprayed chemicals to kill mosquito in the areas where the patient lives. Relevant agencies increased information of the disease to residents and encourage locals to sleep in mosquito net, kill the insect and its larva. It is highly likely to have disease outbreaks in neighboring areas including Bien Hoa Town, Nhon Trach, Trang Bom, Long Thanh which are crowded with workers, said Dr. Huynh Cao Hai, deputy director of the provincial Department of Health. According to the World Health Organization, Zika outbreaks have been reported in around 70 countries and territories. Currently there is no vaccine or specific medicine to treat the disease.
