Vietnam’s Southern Province Strives to Tackle Dengue, Zika Virus

Vietnam’s southern province of Binh Phuoc is implementing campaigns to fight dengue fever and zika virus-related diseases as the number of dengue cases is high. The work focuses on intensifying supervision in the community and raising public awareness of measures to prevent dengue, diseases caused by Zika virus and other infectious diseases. Attention has also been paid to monitoring the health of pregnant women, supporting medical establishments in the work, and preparing resources for precautionary activities. As part of efforts to prevent dengue and diseases that may be caused by the virus, the provincial preventative health center coordinated with local hospitals to organize training courses on dengue prevention for medical staff. Binh Phuoc has recorded over 3,600 dengue cases so far this year, including one fatality. The disease was reported in all the 11 districts. Of which, Dong Xoai town, Chon Thanh, Dong Phu and Bu Dang districts saw the most numbers of infections. (vietnamplus.vn Nov 21)
