Vietnam’s State Disbursement for Education Projects Falls 27.9% in Jan-July

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) disbursed an estimated amount of VND339 billion ($16 million) worth of state funds for its projects in the first seven months of 2013, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). The figure represented an on-year fall of 27.9% and fulfilled 48.6% of the whole-year target, the government-run office added. With the figure, the MoET ranks fifth among ministries in terms of state fund disbursement during the period. In July, the country disbursed VND49 billion worth of state funds for these projects, compared to VND57 billion in June. Economists have recently warned of adverse impacts from low disbursement of projects in the education and training sector. They also called on the government to work out measures to attract more investments in the sector. (GSO July Edition)
