Vietnam’s Vocational Training Must Stick with Labor Market Demand: Lawmaker

Vietnam’s vocational training sector must stick with the labor market demand, especially for the intermediate-level training, college-level training, and retraining of laborers, said Mr. Phan Thanh Binh, head of the National Assembly (NA) Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children. Mr. Binh made the statement at a meeting on September 3 with the Directorate of Vocational Educational and Training (DVET), under Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA). The meeting focused on future development of Vietnam’s vocational training sector. At the event, the DVET listed problems, including weak guidance on career paths for students, ineffective training of some units, unsuitable job structure of the sector, and others. General Director Truong Anh Dung of the DVET suggested solutions of improving the vocational training mechanism; ensuring the openness of the sector, boosting the link between vocational training and the labor markets, enhancing the state budget investment in the sector, among others. Vietnam’s vocational training sector currently recruits 2.2 million learners annually, targets to double the recruitment in 2025, and aims to have 70 high-quality schools in 2025.
