Vietnam to Add Maximum Gender Equality Contents into Textbooks: Ministry

Vietnam will add as many gender equality contents as possible into textbooks, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) said at a conference in Hanoi on June 29 on gender equality within the sector, state media reported. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do listed grade 1 (first grade at primary schools) textbooks as examples. He stressed that illustrative images, activities, and jobs within the textbooks featured both boys and girls. Besides, Mr. Do noted other gender equality targets, including female staff, especially leading positions, in the sector; education for both boys and girls, especially for girls of ethnic minorities; promotions of gender equality towards learning facilities, parents, and community; and prevention of school violence on the basis of gender; among others.
