Vietnam to Add Results of JICA-funded Proj to National Green Growth Plan

Vietnam’s Ministry of Transports (MoT) will utilize the outcomes of the project “to Support the Planning and Implementation of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions” (SPI-NAMA) funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in the national plan for green ports development, state media reported. Mr. Tran Anh Duong, head of the MoT-run Environment Department, made his statement at a workshop on reviewing the SPI-NAMA project in Ho Chi Minh City on January 7. The project, which began in 2015, aims to strengthen the role of the State in promoting policies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, per the Paris Agreement on climate change of the agreement. It assisted Vietnam to create a GHG emissions reduction roadmap. The project was conducted a low-carbon technology assessment on mitigation options under the Nationally Determined Contribution, to which Vietnam has committed under Paris Agreement. Mr. Hiromichi Murakami, deputy director general of Global Environment Department, JICA Headquarters, said that Vietnam, as a member of the global community, plays an essential role in the implementation of the agreement. Vietnam should continue taking bold climate actions to become a low-carbon economy and comply with the global Paris Agreement, experts suggested. The second edition of the conference will be held in Hanoi on January 9. (VietnamNews, Thoi Bao Ngan Hang, BizLIVE, baoquocte)
