Vietnam to Administer Japan-Made Dengue Vaccine on Trial Basis

Vietnam is one of the countries that will administer a Japan-developed dengue vaccine on a trial basis amid the peak dengue fever period, said Dr. Prof Nguyen Van Kinh, vice chairman of the Vietnam Medical Association, on October 12.

The Japan-made vaccine has been under trial, and the initial results showed its efficiency against all four types of dengue viruses, DEN1, DEN2, DEN3, and DEN4, Mr. Kinh said without specifying the vaccine’s name.

Earlier on September 28, the Vietnam Vaccine JSC and Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceuticals signed a deal with the expectation of getting Vietnamese people access to the Japanese firm-produced dengue vaccine TAK-003. The test results of TAK-003, which has been licensed in more than 30 countries, showed that it can create immune responses at different levels to all four dengue viruses.

As of early October, Vietnam recorded over 93,800 dengue cases, down 58.9% y/y, with 26 fatalities.
