Vietnam Aims to Join in Top 500 Global Universities in Mathematics by 2030

Vietnam set a goal to have five universities joining the top 500 universities worldwide in mathematics, including at least two universities named in the top 400, by 2030, state media reported. The target was reported from the Decision 2200 on “National key program for developing Mathematics from 2021 to 2030” released by the Vietnamese Prime Minister on December 22. Besides the target of joining the top global universities, Decision 2200 also aimed to double the number of publications in the Science Citation Index ExpandedTM (SCIE) journals compared to the period 2010-2020 and the number of foreign scientists visiting Vietnam for work, exchange, and cooperation. The decision also targeted to have at least five major research directions in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics in industry, and train about 400 doctors in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics, and foster/training about 80% of Mathematics teachers to fulfill the new general educational curriculum.
