Vietnam Asks WHO, U.S. CDC for Details on Surge of Respiratory Illness in China

The Vietnam Center for Disease Control and Prevention (VNCDC) sent letters to the representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) on November 23, asking for official information about a recent increase in respiratory disease in China.

The VNCDC said that it has directly contacted and talked to the representatives of the WHO Vietnam and China’s focal point for the International Health Regulations (IHR), requesting coordination and information about the disease.

The VNCDC will continue to work closely with the WHO, the U.C. CDC, and international organizations to update the developments of respiratory disease in China.

On November 22, the WHO formally requested that China share detailed information about the surge in respiratory illnesses, citing unconfirmed media reports of undiagnosed pneumonia in children.
