Vietnam Aug Hungry Households Down 21.2% On Month: GSO

Vietnam has reported 11,900 hungry families in Aug, down 21.2% on month and 36% on year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said. During the month, the country recorded 55,000 starving people, down 17.16% on month and 35% on year, the agency added. Most of the hungry families are living in rural areas, remote mountainous provinces, central coastal and central highlands areas that are frequently hit by natural disasters. In the first seven months of this year, the government provided more than 21,600 tons of food and VND24.4 billion ($1.16 million) for famine relief. (GSO Aug Edition)
