Vietnam to Build Plan of Using ODA for Education in 2016-2020

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has assigned related ministries and agencies to work on a plan to use official development assistance for education in the 2016-2020 period. For higher education, the government asked ministry to prioritize investment in several high-ranking universities to improve their reputations. For secondary education, the related agencies will focus on “reforming textbook system” project. For kindergarten level, the government will use ODA loans to improve facilities of those schools that have difficult economic conditions. Earlier this month, the government decided to allocate VND3.1 trillion ($150 million) funded by the International Development Association under the World Bank for university education development in the 2015-2016 period. Vietnam received an estimated amount of over $2 billion for education and training projects in the 1993-2012 period. (Dau Tu – Investment July 17 p2)
