Vietnam Builds First Marine Lipid Data Repository

Scientists at the Institute of Chemistry of Natural Compounds have analyzed over 500 marine organism samples to establish Vietnam's first marine lipid database, local media reported.

This achievement follows over two decades of research led by Professor Pham Quoc Long, chairman of the Board of Science at the Institute of Chemistry of Natural Compounds, along with his team.

Lipid data, also known as lipidome, can assess the biodiversity of a marine region. By examining lipids, scientists gain a database to understand the ongoing ecological dynamics within that ecosystem.

In recent years, through friendly cooperation with the research vessel Academician Oparin of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Long's research team has significantly expanded their database.
