Vietnam Builds Schools on Islands

Vietnam has continued building schools on its islands to create better living and learning conditions for children whose parents are working to protect the country’s sovereignty in the East Sea. Capital for building the schools is mostly sourced from public donors and funds nationwide in a bid to educate children in isolated areas and boost local socio-economic development.
In the latest move, the Ministry of Education and Training has kicked off a kindergarten and preschool worth total VND5 billion ($238,000) in Con Co Island in the central province of Quang Tri. In April, a preschool worth VND15 billion was put into operation in Truong Sa district in the central province of Khanh Hoa while another preschool was also built on Ly Son Island in the central province of Quang Ngai. Investing in education on islands is part of Vietnam’s efforts to improve the living standards of islanders who help protect the country’s sovereignty. The government has also poured huge investment in fisheries by supplying fishermen with modern fishing boats and equipment to better develop a marine economy and strengthen sovereignty protection.
