Vietnam, Canada to Sign MoU on Environment-Climate in 2024: Minister
Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and Canada’s Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change will seal a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in environment and climate change in 2024, said Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh.
The minister informed the guest while meeting Minister of International Development of Canada Ahmed Hussen in Hanoi on January 8.
Mr. Khanh stated that the MoNRE is seeking the Prime Minister’s approval of engaging in Canada’s “Global Carbon Pricing Challenge” (GCPC) initiative, which opens up opportunities to develop the domestic carbon market and support Vietnam in implementing international commitments on climate change.
He also proposed the Canadian government promote technology transfer and mobilize financial investment to help Vietnam deal with plastic pollution, adapt to climate change, and develop Vietnam’s renewable energy market.
In reply, Minister Ahmed Hussen emphasized that Canada is willing to cooperate and support Vietnam in climate change response and energy transition, which is also Canada’s interest.
Canada vows to support financial resources and policies to help Vietnam in the issues of public-private cooperation, capacity enhancement of coastal communities to respond to climate change, carbon market in forestry, and the fight against ocean plastic pollution, he said.
