Vietnam Central Province Records Two Earthquakes

The central province of Quang Nam was hit by two earthquakes measuring between 3.2 and 3.9 on the Richter scale on Sunday morning (Feb 26), according to a statement by the Institute of Geophysics. The first one, measured at 3.9 degree on the Richter scale, occurred at 11.20 a.m. in Nam Tra My District and lasted 5 seconds, the report said. The epicenter was said to be at a depth of 10 kilometers. The other one occurred at 13.02 local time with a 3.2 degree. There were explosion sounds at the time of the event. There has been no confirmation of casualties or damage. Over the past few years, Quang Nam Province has experienced several earthquakes which seismologists believe were triggered by hydropower reservoirs.
