Vietnam Danang City Plans to Set up Management Board of Special-Use Forests

The People’s Committee in Vietnam’s central Danang City plans to establish a joint-management board of the special-use forests (SUF), including Son Tra and Ba Na-Nui Chua nature reserves as well as landscape-protected South Hai Van to control illegal behaviors and violations in protected forests, local media said.

The introduction of the new unit is expected to limit residents, visitors, or poachers illegally entering the forests, said the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, adding that strict rules will help the management board build stronger powers and law enforcement in tackling illegal snares and negative impacts on natural reserves and wildlife habitats.

Currently, the Son Tra natural reserve is managed by different agencies but each agency manages only one assigned area. An overall management board has not been set up to deal with people feeding wildlife, illegal snares in the reserve, and waste left by visitors. (VietnamNews)
