Vietnam Deputy PM Approves Scheme on Forest Quality Improvement
Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has approved the scheme on enhancing forest quality to preserve forest ecosystems and improve disaster prevention until 2030, local media reported.
The scheme aims to enhance the quality of special-use, protective, and production forests to fully utilize their functions, preserve their ecosystems and biodiversity, and improve their carbon-stocking capacity, contributing to minimizing the impact of natural hazards and climate change and ensuring socio-economic development and national security.
The scheme sets the targets of promoting the quality of 240,000 hectares of forests in centrally-run and natural-disasters-prone localities, including 36,000 hectares of special-use forests, 138,000 hectares of protective forests, and 66,000 hectares of production forests.
Its methods are picking certain forest areas and planting various trees in a multi-layer structure, prioritizing native, multipurpose, tolerant, valuable, and rare species.
