Vietnam Desires to Expand Education Ties with United States: PM

Vietnam wishes to expand cooperation with U.S. educational institutions, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed while visiting the University of San Francisco (USF) on September 18 (local time), part of his ongoing U.S. trip.

In his speech, PM Chinh underscored that education and training is the key pillar of the Vietnam-U.S. ties, especially in training high-quality human resources. The two countries have strong collaboration in education, with around 50 linkage programs between higher education institutions between Vietnam and the United States, he added.

The Vietnamese leader proposed the USF forge education collaboration with the Vietnamese partners while creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese students and offering more scholarships to them, notably in the fields of innovation, digital transformation, green transition, and circular economy.

Regarding USF President Paul J. Fitzgerald’s view about the contributions of religions to Vietnamese history, PM Chinh stressed that the Vietnamese State always consistently pursues the policy of respecting and ensuring the right to freedom of belief and religion and the right to follow and not follow any religion; guaranteeing equality and non-discrimination based on religion and belief; and protecting the activities of religious organizations by law.

USF is home to about 80 Vietnamese students, the third-biggest number after those from China and India, stated President Paul J. Fitzgerald.
