Vietnam Firm to Operate $14.42M Waste Treatment Plant in South Today

Tam Sinh Nghia JSC will put into operation a waste treatment plant worth VND300 billion ($14.42 million) in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang today [Sept 16] after two-year construction.
Located in Hon Dat district, the facility is designed to treat and recycle 200 tons of waste per day with the aim to treat the domestic waste from Rach Gia city and neighboring areas. The project is expected to raise the living conditions and create more jobs for local residents. Currently, untreated waste is a pressing issue in Vietnam with 40% of toxic waste is not properly treated and the rest is being buried and recycled illegally, severely threatening the environment and human health, experts warned.  Earlier, the prime minister also approved a program on solid waste treatment in the 2011-2020 period, under which 90% of total industrial solid waste and 100% of non-toxic medical solid waste will be collected and treated by 2020.
