Vietnam Hanoi Demands Measures to Prevent Incidents during Landfill Operation

The People’s Committee in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has called for stringent measures to prevent incidents during the operation of the city’s centralized landfills, particularly at the Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex, following recent environmental issues, local media reported.

After continuous heavy rainfall left a landslide on the banks of the mud storage tank at the Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex earlier this month, the municipal People’s Committee assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to lead efforts, in collaboration with the Soc Son District People’s Committee, to identify causes of the incident, clarify the responsibilities of related units and individuals, and report the findings within May.

Besides, the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the city’s centralized waste treatment facilities, in order to detect and handle issues, develop and implement effective prevention plans to ensure security and safety, and prevent incidents during operation, especially during the rainy and stormy season. Results are to be reported in May.
