Vietnam Hanoi to Launch $15M OPEC-funded Hospital on May 15

Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi is opening the $15-million Giao Thong Hospital (Transport Hospital) on May 15, The Dien Dan Doanh Nghiep newspaper reported on May 10. The project to upgrade the Giao Thong Hospital, which started in November 2013, was funded $13.5 million by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries Fund for International Development (OFID) and the remaining $1.5 million in reciprocal capital of the Vietnamese government. The new hospital was updated through two phases. The first phase costing VND221 billion ($10.19 billion) built the main seven-floor facility with two underground levels. The military-run pharmaceutical firm Armephaco was in charge of the second phase for installing medical equipment worth VND46 billion. The general hospital has completed infrastructure and high tech services in order to be serving the public later this month. The Giao Thong Hospital is part of a $22.5-million loan package funded by the OFID to upgrade several hospitals in Hanoi and the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang. Currently, Vietnam has a total of 260,058 hospital beds, which means the bed availability rate is 28.1 beds/10,000 residents.
