Vietnam Hanoi to Thoroughly Inspect Education Establishments in Sept

Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi are planning to conduct an in-depth inspection of education establishments next month in a bid to tighten control over their operation and ensure the training quality. The municipal People’s Committee has asked district authorities to carry out the one-month long scrutiny starting on September 1 and send a report to the Department of Education and Training. The committee will evaluate the general report submitted by the department from October 15-31 before proposing measures to deal with the violators. It is expected to release the result of punishment performance in November. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, deputy chairwoman of the committee, said that the number of illegal and low-quality training centers has risen in recent years, adversely affecting the local education quality. The committee is also cooperating with the Ministry of Education and Training to check up on colleges and universities that have established associated training programs and have no headquarters but offices in Hanoi. According to the department, the capital city has recognized 768 schools with national standard by end-2012-2013 school year, which makes up 32.1% of the city’s total. (Tin Tuc - News Aug 21 p6)
