Vietnam Hanoi Warned of Dengue Outbreak

The Hanoi Department of Health reported that the city had recorded 102 cases of dengue fever in the first five months this year, state media reported on June 4. The number represents an increase of 62 cases or a 2.55 times increase over the same period in 2014. Dengue fever patients are found in 59 out of 584 communes or 19 out of 30 districts of the capital city. Notably, the local department of health has reported to found multiple cases at the same spot, especially nine cases in Truong Dinh ward in Hai Ba Trung District. The Ministry of Health said that dengue fever outbreak often happens in rainy season from May to November. Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has seen more than 10,000 dengue fever cases, up 25.4% on year, in 41 provinces and cities, with eight fatal cases, data from the ministry showed. In 2014, Vietnam marked the sharpest decrease in the number of dengue fever cases, which were at 30,000 with fewer than 30 fatal cases.
