Vietnam Has First Herb Species Database VIETHERB

Assoc. Prof-Dr. Le Thi Ly and research team at the International University – Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City (IU-VNU HCMC) has successfully developed VIETHERB, a database about the domestic diverse herbal species on the basis of computer science, also the first of its kind in the Southeast Asian country. VIETHERB integrates 2,881 plant species, 10,887 metabolites, 458 geographical locations, and 8,046 therapeutic effects. The platform also includes documents about the binary relationships between species and metabolites (17,602), species and therapeutic effect (2,718), species and morphology (11,943), species and distribution (16,089). The database primarily serves as an open source to help users study modernizing traditional medicine, computer-aided drug design, conservation of endangered plants, and other relevant experimental sciences. Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest biodiversity in the world with about 12,000 plant species. (Tia Sang, tiasang, tiasang)
