Vietnam Health Ministry, ADB Seek to Enhance Cooperation

Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director in Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty in Hanoi on January 31 to discuss measures to promote health cooperation projects, local media reported.

At the meeting, Mr. Chakraborty committed to close coordination with the Vietnamese health ministry and relevant agencies to advance healthcare projects, while affirming that Vietnam is a crucial partner of ADB in Vietnam. He added that ADB would seek non-refundable funding sources for Vietnam, especially the health sector.

Minister Lan, for her part, expressed the desire for effective bilateral cooperation while believing that both sides should focus on the efficient implementation of ongoing projects, which is expected to facilitate the success of upcoming initiatives.

They also discussed some key areas of mutual interest, including Phase 2 of the Health Security Project, strategic priorities of the Ministry, implementation timelines, assessment needs, financial considerations, and the establishment of the ASEAN Center for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases.

The discussions also covered healthcare initiatives related to climate change, elderly care, non-communicable diseases, and the next steps for the expanded Mekong Subregion Health Security Project.
