Auto Motors Vietnam, the importer of Renault cars in Vietnam, and Mai Linh Group signed an agreement to launch the electric taxi service next year in Vietnam on December 16 to reduce gas emissions and improve environment in major cities, state media reported. Under the deal, Vietnam will import about 10,000-20,000 Renault electric cars in the next five years. In the initial stage, 30 cars will be imported into Vietnam and to be used in the country’s three major cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang. The ambitious project of Mai Linh group is expected to be successful as the better way to mitigate environment pollution, said Ho Huy, president of the board of the director of Mai Linh Group. Also Xavier Coiffard, director general of Auto Motors Vietnam, expressed his firm’s wish to contribute to the environmental protection by reducing air pollution in Vietnam. The signing ceremony took place during the Vietnam visit by President of the French National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee Elisabeth Guigou.
