Vietnam Issues National Plan for Ozone-Depleting Substance Elimination
The Vietnamese government issued a national plan for the management and elimination of ozone-depleting substances on June 11, local media reported.
The plan aims to effectively manage and eliminate Ozone depleting substances (ODS), including chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), halons, methyl bromide, carbon tetrachloride, hydrobromofluorocarbons, chlorobromomethane, and methyl chloroform, in line with the Montreal Protocol.
According to the plan, Vietnam will promote the transition to technologies that utilize substances with low or zero global warming potential and roll out sustainable cooling solutions to cut down emissions by 11.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2045.
Besides, Vietnam will honor the commitment to being free of products that contain or are made from bromochloromethane, carbon tetrachloride (CTC), CFC, Halon, HBFC, methyl chloroform, HCFC 141b, and will not import other HCFCs from 2040. The country will also reduce the consumption of HFCs and phase down the substance’s consumption to 20% from 2045.
