Vietnam, Japan to Enhance Cooperation in Forest Management

Vietnam and Japan will strengthen their collaboration in forest management, under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in a recent working visit to the East Asian country by Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Developmentā€™s Department of Forestry Tran Quang Bao.

Accordingly, the two countries will jointly work to sustainably manage the forests, mitigate and respond to climate change, utilize forest resources, and enhance the forest biodiversity preservation work. They will also study and develop new forest management technologies as well as ensure the legality and responsibility of wood and wood products.

Addressing the MoU signing ceremony, Mr. Bao highlighted that with non-refundable technical support programs, official development assistance (ODA) projects, and concessional loan programs, Japan has assisted Vietnam in promoting sustainable forest management, improving local livelihoods, preserving biodiversity, and responding to climate change. He added that Japan is one of the five largest importers of Vietnamese wood products, with a total value of $1.5 billion-$2 billion each year.
