Vietnam, Japan Strengthen Cooperation on Waste Management
Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and Japan’s Ministry of the Environment co-hosted the sixth meeting of the Joint Committee on Waste Management and 3R (Reduce-Recycle-Reuse) in Hanoi on January 11, state media reported.
At the event, both sides reviewed cooperation in 2023 and issued collaboration plans for 2024, such as developing waste-to-energy projects in some localities in Vietnam.
They agreed to continue to cooperate with northern Bac Ninh province and southern Binh Duong province to implement waste-to-energy projects, including building the waste-to-energy plants, and support the development of such projects in four others, namely Dong Nai, Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa, and Tien Giang.
The Japanese side desires to expand cooperation with other Vietnamese localities in the field of waste management, support localities in forming regulations and instructions to calculate waste collection and treatment fees, and strengthen policy development and implementation regarding waste management and waste-to-energy industry, said Mr. Yoshida Satoshi, a representative from the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
Besides, Japan is ready to boost cooperation in electronic waste circulation, including promoting the development of a favorable environment and legal institutions, enhancing Vietnamese staff’s capacity, and boosting collaboration between Vietnamese and Japanese businesses.
