Vietnam July Hungry Households Fall 48.8% On Month: GSO

Vietnam reported 15,100 hungry families in July, falling 48.8% on month and 26.8% on year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said. During the month, the country recorded 66,400 starveling people, down 49% on month and 28.4% on year, the office added. Most of the hungry families are living in rural areas, remote mountainous provinces, central coastal and central highlands areas that are frequently hit by natural disasters. So far this year, the government has provided more than 21,600 tons of food and VND24.4 billion ($1.16 million) for famine relief. (GSO July Edition)
