Vietnam Launches $6.3M Australia-funded Environmental Sanitation Project

A $6.28 million project on water, sanitation and hygiene, sponsored by the Australian government, was launched in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi on Jan 15, the government said on its website. The project aims to improve the environmental sanitation for people living in rural and disadvantaged areas by helping them get access to clean water, build toilets and change their sanitation behaviors. It will upgrade and expand water pipes and support poor households in building toilets. It is expected to set up 20,000 toilets, upgrade 25-30 water-pipe systems and supply clean water for 140,000 locals. The project will be carried out in the northern provinces of Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen, the central province of Binh Dinh and the southern province of Ben Tre within in the 2013-2017 period.
