Vietnam Learns from Japan’s Experiences in Natural Disaster Prevention

A delegation of the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, visited Japan on November 30-December 4 to learn from the host country’s experiences in natural disaster prevention, state media reported. During the trip, the delegation made a fact-finding tour to the submerged area in Tokyo and the prefecture of Nagano and Ibaraki and had a working session with leading officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the matter. JICA officials affirmed that the agency is ready to assist Vietnam in coping with natural disasters in the context of complicated climate change. For his part, Deputy Director of the authority Vu Xuan Thanh expressed his sympathies to the Japanese people on the losses caused by storm Hagibis in October. He hoped that the Japanese government in general and JICA will help Vietnam build scenarios to cope with flooding, flash floods, and landslides in the northern mountainous areas, as well as establish automatic observation system along rivers.
