Vietnam Losses $88.5M on Natural Disasters in Jan-Jul, up by 2.3 Times y/y: GSO

Vietnam is estimated to have recorded an economic loss of more than VND2.12 trillion ($88.5 million) due to natural disasters in the first seven months of this year, increasing by 2.3 times y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Natural disasters are estimated to have caused 91 deaths/missing and injured 67 people while damaging 90,000 hectares of paddy and veggies; 28,400 poultry and cattle; and 28,900 houses, the GSO said.

In January-July, Vietnam is likely to have logged 2,539 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 75 people and injured 65 others, causing an economic loss of VND139 billion, down 39.3% y/y.

Besides, relevant agencies have detected 14,163 environmental violations and handled 12,977 of them, with total fines of VND177 billion, up 0.2% y/y.
