Vietnam-made Medicines Meet 50% of Domestic Demands: Official

Vietnam-made medicines have so far met 50% of the domestic demands for local residents and clinics, Head of the Drug Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health (MoH) Vu Tuan Cuong said at a conference on reviewing ten years of carrying out the “Vietnamese prioritize Vietnamese products” project in Hanoi on July 18. Vietnam now can produce 12 out of 13 vaccines in the national expanded vaccination program, he said, adding that 198 factories in Vietnam met the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) of the World Health Organization (WHO). Last year, the percentage of domestic medicine uses at hospitals reached 63% and those at over half of the provinces in Vietnam hit 50%. The MoH has issued a list of 640 medicines that local producers could provide at the affordable prices and meet the treatment requirements.
