Vietnam Makes More Efforts to Handle War Aftermaths

Vietnam needs to make more efforts to deal with bomb and mine consequences in the coming years as the undiscovered volume forecast to hit thousands tons. Statistics showed in 2002 that the country remained 9,284 out of 10,511 communes suffer consequences of bomb and mine. The area which bomb and mine hidden reaches up to 6.6 million hectares. So far, only 20% of the suffering land is handled. Since 1975, Vietnam reports 42,135 deaths and 62,163 others injured by bomb and mine. Bomb and mine also cause bad impacts on people’s lives, harming the socio-economic development. To cope with the situation, Vietnam has conduct a program called 504 for the 2011-2015 period to map the area covered with bomb and mine to tackle problems. (dangcongsan.vn Jan 5)
