Vietnam May Let Schools Open New Academic Year by Online Methods

Vietnam will let schools flexibly prepare and host ceremonies of new academic year, including online formats, as the new school year is coming in two weeks amid the complicated developments of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), said an official of the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). The current schedule is that schools can host back-to-school events after September 1, and then launch the new academic year on September 5. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh, head of the MoET’s Secondary Education Department, noted the idea is that learners may stop going to schools but must not stop studying. He added that the MoET will push schools to apply distance teaching to adapt to the COVID-19 disease. As of August 16, 28 localities in Vietnam have announced the schedule for new academic year.
