Vietnam May Remove Intermediate Course Duty from Local Education Dept.

Departments, Offices of Education and Training in localities across Vietnam may no longer have the task of opening intermediate-level majors for intermediate-level schools, under the management of those departments and offices, local media reported, citing a draft circular by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). Currently, The interdisciplinary Circular 47/2011 by the MoET and the Ministry of Home Affairs gives the functions and tasks to those departments and offices. According to the draft circular, the departments and offices have six tasks, including the evaluating, establishing, merging, dissolving higher educational institutions. Meanwhile, the government’s Decree 143/2016/ND-CP stipulates that the Departments of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) are responsible for the management of intermediate-level schools and vocational training centers, including the permission to register and open branches and courses.
