Vietnam Ministry Reviews $740M Climate Resilience Proj in Mekong Delta

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development hosted a meeting in Can Tho City on August 12 to review the implementation of a climate resilience project worth VND17.6 trillion ($740 million) in ten Mekong Delta provinces, state media reported.

The project, known as MERIT-WB11 and sourced from World Bank loans, aims to develop key commodity chains and transition from small-scale operations to concentrated agricultural economic clusters. It will integrate urbanization, industrialization, and tourism, boosting job opportunities and incomes.

It also sets a goal to enhance climate resilience in agricultural production and rural communities in these areas.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep urged the joined provinces to submit necessary documents by August 15 to affirm their commitment to sustainable development and climate adaptation. He also requested localities to confirm the total investment amount, counterpart funding, and borrowing capacity to proceed with the project.

So far, five provinces have met the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s requirements, with the remaining five expected to complete submissions by the end of this month.
