Vietnam Ministry Seeks UNICEF’s Helps in Preschool, Kids with Disabilities

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) seeks further helps from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in policies for preschool education, planning on education for kids with disabilities, and review of assessment on learners, state media reported. Minister Phung Xuan Nha gave the proposal at a meeting in Hanoi on December 3 with UNICEF Chief Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers. Regarding preschool and kids with disabilities, Mr. Nha stressed policy of fair entrance for kids in remote areas and industrial parks/zones. For assessment on learners, he noted the review based on the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM). In reply, Ms. Flowers stressed the UNICEF’s commitment to developing kids and education in Vietnam. She also suggested cooperation in additional sectors, including secondary and high schools, skills for Industry 4.0, education about climate change, green lifestyle, among others. Besides, both sides discussed the cooperation in language for people of ethnic minorities, boarding or semi-boarding schools for learners of ethnic minorities, and organization of a Southeast Asia event in Vietnam in 2020 on training of skills for digitalization.
